There is this unruly and ingratiate attitude clamming the
necks of Ghanaian celebrities which makes them think they have attained
it and for that matter rain insults on the media for any blonder. First
of all, whom do those celebrities think they are? They see themselves as
most able, wealthy super-beings having a number of followers to their
credit. But I see them as “public servants” who still have to know what
it takes.
For them, all they expect from the media is to
gain the “hypes”, “promotions”, “features”, “adverts”, “markets” and
hear nothing like criticism. Have you not read or heard that “everyone
is subjected to criticism” especially in the hungry face of the media?
Reference
to the first line of the fourth paragragh of the GJA Preamble is a
backing prove; “As the fourth estate of the realm, the public expect the
media to play the watchdog role”. Having seen this, shouldn’t the media
bite anyone or organization attributed with social misbehaviours?
Obiviously yes, the media must help wipe off all insanity and replenish
the society with good tidings.
Secondly, whom made them popular?
Isn’t it the same journalist? Sometimes, I wish all the journalists can
play the “Anas”; so that evident tapes would be brought out in times
like this. I tell you but you wouldn't believe how these so-called
celebrities worshiped journalists in their preliminary route to stardom.
When
seeking publicity, they parade at radio stations with angelic looks,
showering the journalist with all sort of praises, coaxing him with
smiles and respect in the highest sense. This is the time you can even
tell them to lie on the ground prostrate to walk on them, they would do
it like nobody’s business but when they get to the peak of their career,
they realize the mere “low income” journalist a nobody they used to
gain limelight.
They tend to forget home; how they spent all their
hard-earned “pesewas” on Studio recording and attending auditions.
Today, because they are riding in luxurious cars that the journalist
cannot even afford the tyre.
The journalist has become so cheap
before him that they can insult him without thinking twice if he dares
criticizes them or their works. They would even forget how they visited
the journalist in their homes and even offered to wash their “alatsa”
cars, if there was any. Those where the time, the journalist could have
made sales on payola but that was the same time these aggressive stardom
hunters had not even what to eat.
The needless journalist working
for God and country would help them out expecting little appreciation
in some time to come, only to be treated as rags after gaining the fame.
When the journalist now wants to even have a chat with them or take
photos with them, they would watch their bodyguards throw them away like
chaff. When you even need their presence to boost a function, they’d
pass you on to their management to lay huge cost before you.
After
sometime of receiving publicity, they begin to misbehave then when
criticism come in they call the poor journalist a “devil in disguise”.
It’s high time the media advised itself.
Merci Beaucoup
